Under the standard regime, the first $102,000 of taxable income is taxed at 0%, and the amount above it at 9%. A separate Domestic Minimum Top-up Tax framework provides for a 15% minimum effective rate for multinational groups within scope. It generally covers groups with global revenue of at least €750 million in at least two of the four preceding financial years.
Companies generally need to register unless an applicable exception applies, including free-zone companies. Individuals conducting business generally fall within corporate tax when business turnover exceeds $272,000 in a calendar year. Registration can be required even when no tax is payable.
No. A Qualifying Free Zone Person can benefit from 0% on Qualifying Income when the relevant conditions are met. These include substance, qualifying income, transfer pricing and audited financial statement requirements. Free-zone incorporation or overseas customers alone do not establish eligibility.
Eligible resident persons may elect for relief where revenue does not exceed $817,000 in the current and all previous relevant tax periods. Other conditions and exclusions apply. Qualifying Free Zone Persons and certain multinational-group members cannot claim this relief.
Returns and payment are generally due within nine months after the tax period ends. Late-return penalties are $136 per month or part of a month for the first 12 months, rising to $272 per month or part thereafter. Late registration can attract a separate $2,725 penalty, subject to applicable waiver provisions.
Typical documents include financial statements, ledgers, invoices and records supporting tax adjustments or reliefs. Relevant records must generally be retained for seven years after the tax period ends. Related-party dealings may require additional disclosures and transfer pricing documentation, depending on applicable thresholds.
Fees depend on the scope, transaction volume, condition of your accounts and complexity of the tax position. Free-zone assessments, related-party transactions and accounting corrections may require additional work. Contact Alboré for a quote based on your business needs.
